Irritable Bowel Syndrome, also commonly referred to as IBS, is a bowel disorder that affects the large intestine. Although IBS can be onset by stress, the exact causes of IBS are unknown.
Symptoms of IBS are cramping, abdominal pain, gas (flatulence), bloating, diarrhea, and constipation. Fortunately these IBS symptoms do not cause permanent colon damage.
Further symptoms of IBS include chronic fatigue, fibromyalgia, headache, backache, gastroesophageal reflux, and psychiatric disorders such as anxiety and depression.
Who Can Get IBS?
While anyone is susceptible to IBS, some people are more likely to have it. Those people are:
-Women
-People under 50 years old
-People related to an IBS sufferer
Treatments for IBS
Unfortunately there is no cure for Irritable Bowel Syndrome at this time. Yet there are treatments that can offer relief.
Fiber, for instance, can provide relief for sufferers of constipation. It is recommended that IBS sufferers take soluble fiber at doses of 20 grams daily. Yoga is also believed to an effective reliever. Managing your lifestyle, stress, and diet can help in controlling IBS.
